Does training on sand increase the risk of injury?

TL;DR

The risk of injury when training on sand.

Considerations about injury risk during sand training.

Reducing injuries

Any sport on any surface can cause injuries when performed with unsuitable technique. The original article recommends:

  • An appropriate warm-up: choose stretches and movements relevant to the planned session.
  • Gradual progression: begin at a comfortable, gentle pace and increase intensity as the body warms up.
  • Correct technique: poor technique can reduce the stimulus to the intended muscles and increase injury risk.
  • A cool-down: take time after the workout to return towards your resting state, including post-session stretching and a return to calm breathing.
